Next opponent: Brest Bretagne Handball

DVSC SCHAEFFLER’s current opponent is the silver medalist of the French championship. Brest has so far scored 4 points in the Champions League just like Loki and is currently in fifth place in Group A.

On Saturday, the DVSC SCHAEFFLER-Brest Bretagne Handball Champions League match starts at Hódos. This will be our fourth domestic meeting in the elite series, so far we have won two out of three in Debrecen. The balance of the French is also similar, although they have so far scored four points in three matches away from home; they beat Savehof and CSM Bucuresti, only Bietigheim could beat them at home. It is interesting that Brest has not yet scored a point as a field selector, although Győr and Odense also proved to be better by only one goal. Loki has not yet met its current opponent on the international stage, the last time it played against a French team was in 2016, when Nantes advanced in the EHF Cup.

We are talking about an extremely young club, which is just the same age as Liliána Czernyánszki… It was founded in 2004 under the name HBF Arvor 29, in 2014 it took on the name Brest Bretagne. Even before the last name change, in 2012, they achieved their first success, winning the French championship under the name Arvor 29 – Pays de Brest. 2016 was also a very significant year for our opponent, as it was then that they returned to the first division and even won the French Cup! In 2018 and 2021, Brest won the domestic cup series and the French championship in 2021. Vipers ordered them to stop. The home of our current opponent is the Arena Brest, handed over in 2014, which is a multifunctional hall that can accommodate 4,077 spectators during handball matches.

The head coach of Brest Bretagne is Pablo Morel (despite his slightly Spanish-sounding name, he is French), who has been in charge of the team since 2021. The 40-year-old professional has been working as a coach for twenty years, spent five years at Issy Paris, but was also second coach of the Gabon national team for one year. One of the team’s best-known players is Cleopatre Darleaux, Olympic, world and European champion goalkeeper, who suffered a concussion in the spring and has not returned to the field since then. The German Katharina Filter is trying to replace her, but the former Érd goalkeeper Julie Foggea is also capable of good performance. Among the outfield players, the 37-year-old world championship silver medalist Alexandrina Cabral Barbosa’s name resonates best among handball fans, the Russian right-hander Valeria Maslova has scored the most goals in the matches so far. It will certainly be worth watching the Olympic champion French linebacker Pauletta Foppa, as well as the Montenegrin shooter Djurdjina Jaukovics, who has recently recovered from a knee injury.
