Top scorer team Odense is coming

Odense has scored an average of 33 goals per game so far in the Champions League, which is the most in Group A. The Danish silver medalist will be the opponent of DVSC SCHAEFFLER on Saturday, from 16:00 in Hódos.

Here are some interesting facts about our opponent on Saturday:

  • Odense won seven out of ten Champions League matches, lost three times, and is in second place in Group A with 14 points.
  • They have scored 335 goals in the matches so far, i.e. their average goal is 33.5, making them the most successful in Group A and in third place behind Metz (345) and Ikast (345).
  • Maren Aardahl, who plays as a substitute, leads the list of home scorers with 55 hits, followed by the lightning-fast left winger, Elma Halilcevic, who beat the goalkeepers 44 times.
  • Our current opponent won the tie with three goals. For a long time, it seemed that DVSC SCHAEFFLER could score a point even at Odense’s home, and finally the home team won by 33:30.
  • At home, the Danes lost only against Győr, even against them by a minimal margin, 31:30. They didn’t manage to score a point away from ETO either (29:32), and they also left Bucharest with a defeat, the final result of that meeting was 28-24.
  • This is their fifth season in the Champions League, they reached the quarter-finals twice (2018/19 and 2022/23), and last season they were eliminated against Győr in the battle for the top four.
  • The head coach of Odense is Ole Gustav Gjekstad, the former 149-time Norwegian national handball player, who also made his mark as a coach with Larvik and Vipers Kristianstad, with whom he ended the previous three Champions League seasons with a gold medal! He won ten Norwegian league titles with Larvik and five with Vipers, this is his first season at Odense.
  • We may be familiar with Elma Halilcevic in the left wing position, who crushed pepper under the noses of our goalkeepers last season as a Nykobing player, but the names of the Dutch right-winger Dione Housheer, the Danish manager Mie Hojlund or the also Danish goalkeeper Althea Reinhardt also sound good in European handball.
  • Our opponent finished second in the Danish league last season, behind Esbjerg. Odense Handbold was founded in 2009 and won the Danish championship twice (in 2021 and 2022) and the cup once (in 2021).
