In the second half of Thursday’s press conference, we asked our five newly signed players in a flash interview.
We are starting the next season with five new handball players, in addition to two Hungarians (Kata Juhász, Vivien Grosch), three legionnaires (Elinore Johansson, Tamara Haggerty and Gabrijela Bartulovic) have arrived in Debrecen.
In May, Kata Juhász suffered a serious knee injury in the league match against MTK. The young player, signed from NEKA, was operated on in Tata in June and is already rehabilitating. “Compared to the circumstances, I’m fine – the pivot gave a quick situation report. – My recovery is going well, I started working with our physiotherapist Laura Kerék, and I hope to return to the field with renewed strength. I am very excited to be here in Debrecen, as I wanted to be certified here even before the application. This is a big step in my career!”
The right winger Vivien Grosch, who was invited to the national team in the summer, arrives from MTK. “I was really looking forward to joining DVSC,” Vivien revealed. – I am family-oriented, so the start was difficult, but I am confident that the successes achieved will make up for everything. This is a big challenge for me, but I will do my best to be able to take this step and be a useful member of the team! Starting the Champions League came as a surprise, but I was happy about it, I am confident that we can show what we are capable of!”
The first Swedish player in the history of DVSC is Elinore Johansson, who plays as a right-back. The left-handed player will be no stranger to the most prestigious international cup series, as he already played in the Champions League for Norwegian Storhamar last season. “I’m very happy to play in the CL again! said the Elinore. – This will be a new experience for me, I want to improve as a person and as a player, with the help of my coaches and teammates. I’m away from home, it’s a bit difficult, but I’m taking it as an adventure. I can get to know a new country, a new culture and encounter things I have never known before. For example, I have come across many surprising novelties in food stores…!”
The Dutch national team linebacker, Tamara Haggerty, is moving from the Danish team Horsens to Debrecen. Tamara has a reputation as a tough defender, so attackers won’t have an easy time against her. “On the one hand, I have heard a lot of good things about the club, which is constantly on the European cup field, and on the other hand, about the fans, who create a great atmosphere in the hall – answered Tamara when asked why she wanted to move to Debrecen. “I like to defend, it’s fun for me.” I especially like one-on-one situations, it gives me pleasure when I can crush pepper under the opponent’s nose.”
After four outfield players, a goalkeeper should follow: Gabrijela Bartulovic. The Croatian goalkeeper spent two seasons in Dunaújváros, so she is not unfamiliar with the Hungarian championship. “It is a club with a long history, so I arrived in Debrecen with a good feeling – the Croatian goalkeeper closed the ranks of the newcomers. – I don’t see Catherine Gabriel as a rival, I think it’s best if we complement each other with my fellow goalkeeper. I will strive for that. I played a lot against DVSC, who always had a good defense, so they scored a lot of easy goals, which I got plenty of, so now I’m happy to be on the other side.”
