Planéta Szimonetta will leave next summer

The club concluded a 1 + 1 year contract with Szimo this January, but she exercised her option and decided to leave Debrecen after the end of the first year because she wants to play handball abroad again.

Planéta Szimonetta arrived in Debrecen in the summer of 2021. On September 10, in the home match against Kisvárda, she made her debut at DVSC SCHAEFFLER, scoring two goals. So far, she has played a total of 79 matches in a Loki shirt and scored 253 goals. In NB 1, she scored 176 times in 58 matches. In February of this year, in Mosonmagyaróvár, she didn’t stop until she scored 8 goals, which is her individual goalscoring record. She returned to the Hungarian national team as a player from Debrecen and played at the 2021 World Championship in Spain. In her first year in Debrecen, she won a championship bronze medal with Loki, and in the last season, in addition to the championship, she also won a bronze medal in the Hungarian Cup. The club extended her contract, which expires this summer, with another 1+1 year contract in January 2023. However, the player recently decided to exercise her option right and leave Debrecen after the end of the first year, i.e. in the summer of 2024.

“I really like the team and the club, everyone who is around us. It is a real family environment, but there comes a moment in everyone’s life when they feel that they need a change, something new. This just happened to me. I feel that I need a change and I really want to play abroad again, since I only have positive experiences of life in the Legion. The truth is that I am not young anymore, I feel that the end of my handball career is approaching, so if not now, then when will I be able to fulfill this desire. It was a difficult decision, as I am jumping into the unknown again, but I felt that something was still missing from my life – Szímó explained the decision.”

The announcement is official, but it is not yet time to say goodbye, as the team and Planéta Simonetta still have a lot of work to do until next summer.
