Miracle in Guthenburg: Olympic hopes still alive

It’s like when the dead knocks you out of the grave and then returns to the  world. The Hungarian national team rose from incredible depth against the Croatians and fought for participation in the Olympic qualifying tournament. We only led once in the match: at the very end!!!

The situation was crystal clear before the last semi-final match of the Hungarian national team: we have to beat Croatia, and our team can qualify to the Olympic qualifying tournament. For this chance favorable results needed, but the point is that the chance was there, our fate was in our own hands. We started badly and continued even worse. So much so that it is not even worth wasting words for first three quarters of the match. We were very deep when, just over a quarter of an hour before the end of the match, the Croatians took a 19-13 lead. Paris was far away, the five-ring hopes seemed lost, when…

When something changed. Defiant, determined and made up of real fighters, the Hungarian national team produced a 10-3 run at the end. We led only once (!) during the match, at the very end, with a goal by Kinga Debreczeni-Klivinyi 23-22. Blanka Böde-Bíró defended the seven at the best time, we kept the ball at the end, so the Hungarian national team won the World Championship with an incredible comeback and thus qualified for the Olympic qualifiers.

Olympic hope lives on!

HUNGARY–CROATIA 23–22 (8–11)
Gothenburg, 1200 spectators. R: Garcia, Paolantoni (Argentines)

HUNGARY: Böde-Bíró – Győri-Lukács 5, Klujber 9 (7), Papp N., Bordás, Kuczora, Márton G. Substitutions: Bukovszky (goalkeeper), Vámos P. 1, Füzi-Tóvizi, Debreczeni-Kilvinyi 3, Albek 2, Szöllősi-Schatzl 1, Pásztor N., Simon P. 2.

And another news about Jovanovic Jovovic, who plays for the Serbian national team. We witnessed some scary moments during the Japan-Serbia match in the early afternoon. In the eighth minute of the match, our Serbian national left back player collapsed on the pitch, and after a long treatment, he finally left the arena on his own feet. After the match, we reached Jovi, who told us that he fainted, but is now better, probably because of the fatigue caused by the series load.
