The General Assembly of the City of Debrecen awarded the Pro Urbe Award to the legend of the DVSC handball club, the two-time EHF Cup-winning master coach Vilmos Köstner.
Pro Urbe, i.e. for the City! If anyone deserves this award, it is Vilmos Köstner. His name merges with the club, Debrecen. He led the red and white team in four installments, in a total of 194 matches, under his leadership Loki reached the top and won the EHF Cup in 1995, then the team defended his title a year later in a unique way in the history of the series. He was also there during the most difficult period, when the survival of handball in Debrecen was at stake, and he played a big role in making it happen. His life is handball, and even in 2024, he is there every day at Hódos, giving training sessions to the academics and directing matches for the youngest players. He couldn’t exist without it! The Pro Urbe Award does not change this either, Vili continues his work. We hope for many years to come! Vilmos Köstner received the award at the festive general assembly held on Debrecen City Day.
