Junior world championship starts on Wednesday

The U20 (junior) World Championship will be held in Skopje, in which the Hungarian national team prepared by the coaching duo Zoltán Szilágyi and Kitti Kudor will participate as European champions. Start on Wednesday at 9 am (!) against Argentina, live on the Sport 1 channel!

The participants may have a feeling of deja vu, since two years ago, the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, also hosted the top event of the same age group, the youth world championship. The two halls are the same as they were in 2022. The matches, 126 in number, will be held in the Borisz Trajkovszki Sports Center and the Jane Szandanszki Arena! Two years ago, Bohus Bea managed the Hungarian youth team as a national coach, who won a bronze medal after losing to eventual winners South Korea in the semi-finals. Last year, Zoltán Szilágyi and Kitti Kudor led our team at the Junior European Championship in Romania, who won the gold medal with a convincing performance. Under the managing of the two experts from Debrecen, the Hungarian national team is still 100 percent in the match!

The Hungarian national team will not have an easy task at the World Cup starting on Wednesday, as they will already meet the Youth World Cup winner Korea in the group stage, and then in the semi-finals, they will have to go through Denmark and Norway to reach the knockout stage, i.e. into the top eight. The task is made more difficult by the fact that Simon Petra, one of the key members of the European Championship-winning team, cannot be there in Skopje, as he is preparing for the Paris Olympics with the adult national team.

The Hungarian team prepared for the World Cup in Debrecen for two weeks, and as the end of the training camp, they played two test matches in the Hódos Imre Rendezvénycsarnok against Egypt and then the Netherlands as part of the Three Nations Tournament. The latter meeting started at an unusual time, at 10 a.m., which was a good preparation for the World Cup, where our national team will play its first match on Wednesday at 9 a.m. You can watch this match live on the Sport1 television channel, just as you will be able to follow the entire tournament live, since Sport1 and Sport2 broadcast a total of 32 matches live, including, of course, all the matches of the Hungarian national team.

There are three players from the DVSC Handball Academy in the Hungarian squad: Liliána Csernyanszki, Réka Lakatos and Anna Panyi, who spent the last season on loan in Érd.

Women’s Junior (U20) World Championships, Skopje, North Macedonia, 19-30 June 2024.
Group matches of the Hungarian national team:
June 19, 9:00 a.m.: Hungary-Argentina
June 20, 1:30 p.m.: Hungary-Mexico
June 22, 1:30 p.m.: Hungary–South Korea

The first two places in each group will qualify to the main round.
