The win against Denmark means that the Hungarian national team has won its main round group and will play on Thursday at 18:00 for a place in the final four.
The players of the Hungarian and Danish age group national teams could greet each other like old friends, as they have met several times since the 2021 European Youth Championship. Most recently, they played against each other twice at last year’s Junior European Championships. Before the final, which ended with a Hungarian victory of 35–26, the teams were tense with each other in the semi-final, just like now, and just like now, both teams could have entered the field as a sure advance. Compared to last year’s continental tournament, there were a lot of changes in both squads, here and there a key player was eliminated. On our side, Simon Petra, who is preparing for the Olympics, and on the Danish side, Ikast’s player, 14-time senior national team member Julie Scaglione, is missing from the World Cup, the latter due to an injury.
In the match between the already certain quarter-final teams, the Hungarian team once again showed its greatest strength, ours defended excellently. Thanks to this, it was possible to break even after the first minutes, but the northerners caught up with Zoltán Szilágyi’s team in the middle of the half.
However, the scissors opened again before the break, and in the continuation the match was decided in a few minutes. The Hungarian national team, which made a lot of mistakes in the attack, but this time also defended extra, as in the era marked by Kitti Zoltán-Kudor Szilágyi, left the field victorious in every match so far. In the quarter-finals, on Thursday at 18:00, the Hungarian team will play against the second place in the semi-final group IV.
