Junior national team: the World Cup rehearsal went well

The Hungarian U20 national team prepares for the World Cup with a knockout success against the Dutch.

The Hungarian team, which is preparing for the World Cup in Skopje, took part in the Three Nations Tournament at the end of the two-week training camp in Debrecen. On Wednesday’s opening day, our team won against Egypt, and the following day, the Netherlands also defeated the African ladies, so the Hungarian-Dutch match on Friday morning decided the first place in the preparatory tournament. The expected big battle was missed, because the orange jerseys could only keep up with ours until 2-2. The Hungarian team pulled away with a five-nil rush, after thirty minutes the score was 17-12.

In the continuation, the Hungarian national team managed by the coaching duo Zoltán Szilágyi and Kitti Kudor left their opponent standing. There was no answer to four home goals at the beginning of the half, and Hungary doubled its half-time advantage in the 38th minute, Liliána Csernyánszki’s third goal made the score 23-13. The Hungarian team defended resolutely and hard, and Imre Szofi paraded in the goal, it is difficult to find markers for his 81 percent defensive efficiency.

The Hungarian professional team was able to try several tactical formations in the heat, and despite the experimentation, the result was a knockout, the Hungarian national team won the World Cup test 36-21. Among the players of the DVSC Handball Academy, Liliána Csernyánszki scored four goals, Anna Panyi scored two goals, and our goalkeeper Réka Lakatos had a role in the beginning of the match.

The members of the Hungarian squad were given a rest for the weekend. The players will meet on Sunday evening, they will prepare in Győr until Tuesday, and on that day they will fly from Vienna to Skopje.

The World Cup starts for us on Wednesday, June 19, at 9 am Argentina will be the first opponent.
