Hungarian Cup: advancing with a better-than-expected play

After the European break, DVSC SCHAEFFLER returned in an away cup match against MTK. Great defense and goalkeeper performance was the key to a sure victory!

Before the match, the leaders of MTK greeted the players and managers who took part in the bronze medal of the European Championship, including three handball players from Debrecen, Petra Füzi-Tóvizi, Niki Tóth and Petrus Mirtill, the second coach of the Hungarian national team, Zoltán Szilágyi, and the masseuse of the home team and the national team, Daniel Sándor.
We started the match well, in the 8th minute we led 7-3 with Petrus Mirtill’s third goal, then 8-3 with Ocean-Sercien Ugolin’s third goal. MTK asked for time, but that did not change the picture of the game. Our defense worked, Catherine Gabriel defended in great form and started accurately. In the 23rd minute of the first half, Konszuéla Hámori entered the field amid a standing ovation, after a forced break of 314 days. We scored quick goals in a row, but the girls from Debrecen were not embarrassed even against a standing wall, so by the break the question of advancing was almost decided.
In the continuation, the match was more balanced, maybe there was a little more inaccuracy in our game, but we still scored some nice goals and there were also some great individual performances. Thus, after the long break, DVSC SCHAEFFLER continued the season with a straight victory and can wait for the draw for the quarterfinals.

COACHES’ SPEECHES:
Attila Vágó: We played handball unmotivated and weak-willed in the first half. Thus, the difference quickly became large, and this is not good for self-confidence before the decisive match against Fehérvár. We didn’t prepare for that, we wanted to stay closer to DVSC. There were good individual performances in the second half, but we need a lot more will to achieve our goals.
Zoltán Szilágyi: Our goal was to fight for promotion, and we achieved this with a better-than-expected performance. Our defense was stable and good, thanks to this we had the opportunity to attack, so we already decided to advance in the first half. After the break, the game was more balanced, I’m glad that I was able to give everyone a chance to play.
