This time we couldn’t keep up with the champion team, which was full of great players.
Nearly 70 Debrecen fans arrived on the free bus provided by the club, so one sector of the Elek Gyula Arena was filled to the brim with fans. It is another matter that the rest of the hall was packed with Fradi fans. It was as if the atmosphere had left its mark on our game, as we were unable to score from our first four attacks. Added to this was a sending off in the seventh minute, which turned into a double man deficit a minute later, so it is no wonder that FTC built a four-goal lead in just over ten minutes. At that time, Zoltán Szilágyi called for time out. Csernyánszki started as a playmaker, and Hámori as a right crosser, who were replaced by Niki Tóth and Sercien-Ugolin after the time out. Jovovics also arrived, thanks to his good moves, among other things, the team began to pick up the pace dictated by Fradi. The second ten minutes became more even, although we could not get closer than three goals. The beginning of the half brought quite a hectic game, although in the 26th minute we managed to reduce the difference to two goals, and two minutes later Fradi was already five goals ahead, and they maintained this advantage until the break (17:12).
We started the second half terribly. We were breezy and soft in defense, and inaccurate in attack, so in just five minutes, Fradi, who switched to a higher gear, increased their lead to ten goals. And the difference only grew further, the champion team was up by 12, so Zoltán Szilágyi called for his third time in the 39th minute. This did not change the picture of the game much either. Fradi’s classics were floundering, while ours tried to somehow pick up the rhythm again, but it would not succeed. After 43 minutes, the home team had 30 goals, and we had 17. In the last quarter of an hour, we were completely unable to stop the champion team, so it ended in a heavy defeat.

MASTER’S BALANCE:
Zoltán Szilágyi: there is not much good to say about our game today, not only in terms of the quality of the game, but also in terms of our mental strength. We were a shadow of ourselves. Ferencváros played dynamic, energetic handball. We held our own in the first half, but in the second half the difference in quality between the two teams became clear. I regret that we gave up the fight in the second half, and we cannot do that to our fans or to ourselves.
Allan Heine: I was very satisfied with the way we started, that laid the foundation for our victory. Of course, I can’t complain about the rest. We actually played a nearly perfect match against a strong team, which I am extremely proud of. Everyone contributed to this victory, as even those coming off the bench did their part. I think it is a great thing that we were able to play at such a high level for almost 60 minutes.
