Feat in Bucharest, too!

The excellent defense and uncopmromising fight resulted a point. DVSC SCHAEFFLER played to a draw at the home of the Romanian star team CSM Bucharest.

During warm-up, everyone did their part, but – as it usually happens in team sports – the players took a sneaky look at the opponent. They are bigger, stronger, more experienced. Ours might have thought, but we have seen this before, not so long, just two weeks ago, when the Brest Bretagne Handball team, which also has a formidable reputation, visited the Hódos. Then what happened?

Polivalenta Hall, which has seen many big battles and presumably party meetings, was a strong half-house. Roughly 2,500 spectators were curious about the match between CSM Bucharest, full of Olympic, world and European champions stars, and DVSC SCHAEFFLER, dubbed the surprise team of the season.

The match started with two great saves by Catherine Gabriel, while Töpfner scored a penalty, so Loki took the lead for the first time. CSM could not score for four minutes, and finally Neagu equalized after two attacks from Debrecen ended without a goal. After a goal change between Vámos and Pintea, Hámori took one of his usual attacks, with which Loki led again to 3:2. After five and a half minutes of play, the home coach asked timeout…

The minutes flew, the score was constantly around a draw. CSM took the lead for the first time in the 18th minute, at 9:8, and only in the 27th, for the second time, at 14:13. However, the last three minutes did not go well. After a missed panelty and a technical error or two slipped in and there was also a questionable referee’s decision, and the experienced opponent immediately took advantage of the wobble. At halftime, CSM Bucharest led by 17:14.

We didn’t start the second half very well. He missed a penalty again, this time Kácsoron caught Davidsen, so CSM went with five for the first time during the match. Then, after Flippes’ two-minute suspension, we came back to two goals. Then a “strange” referee’s decision came again, Planeta was sent off, but the team did not break, in fact, we caught up by one goal. So, at 22:21, in the tenth minute of the second half, Adrian Vasile asked timeout again..

MASTER SCALE
Adrian Vasile: Debrecen is a very good team, they showed it before and this time as well. When we led by five goals in the second half, we were in a hurry and our opponent took advantage of that. Unfortunately, we are not calm enough in the end games of close games.

Zoltán Szilágyi: I am very proud of my team, we were able to score a point in a very close match at the home of a leading European team. In the first half, our defense was not aggressive enough, this changed after the break. We were also able to solve seven against six situations. We had a chance to win, but we can be satisfied with a draw!
