Dutch pivot arriving

The Dutch Tamara Haggerty will come to Debrecen to replace the injured Kata Juhász.

We confirmed Kata Juhász from the National Handball Academy to replace the departing Réka Bordás, building the future, but Kata suffered a serious injury during the last championship. Her knee will be operated on Monday, and she will have to wait at least eight months for her return.

Since the clubs had already formed their squads by the beginning of the summer, it was not easy to find a quality pivot, as we were looking for a complex player who could help the team not only in attack but also in defense, and also in the third position. After a long research, we finally succeeded. DVSC SCHAEFFLER signed a two-year contract with Tamara Haggerty, 27 years old, 178 cm tall, 11-time Dutch international, who meets all criteria and is expected to replace Réka Bordás.

In her homeland, Tamara played for VOC Amsterdam, Westfriesland SEW and RKHV Quintus. From there she joined the German band Blomberg-Lippe in 2016. Later, she also played three seasons in the Bundesliga in Metzingen, then moved from the Swedish IK Sävehof to the Danish Horsens last summer.

Our new player won a silver medal in the Dutch championship, she won two championship and one cup bronze with the German Metzingen, and in 2022 she became the Swedish champion with the Sävehof team. She also appeared with the same team in the Champions League in the 2021/22 season, where she scored 28 goals.

She was a member of the Dutch national team at the Olympics, but in the end, after the reduction in the squad, she was unable to travel to the five-hoop games held in Tokyo. The Dutch player is excitedly looking forward to the years in Debrecen.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to Debrecen, it’s a new challenge for me. The Hungarian league is one of the strongest leagues in the world, and, as it turned out afterwards, I can play in the Champions League again, so I’m doubly excited. I’m sure we’ll have a great season,” said Tamara Haggerty.

You can read the longer interview with our new player on our website on Thursday.
