On January 10, at 6 p.m., at the home of Praktiker-Vác, DVSC SCHAEFFLER can fight for a place among the top eight teams of the Hungarian Cup.
The last time the teams met was on November 15, in a championship match in Vác. DVSC SCHAEFFLER won 30-27. However, the home team proved to be tough opponents. We could have decided the fate of the two points several times, but Vác always fought back in the key moments, so we only managed to win in a fierce final game.
Our MK opponent started their action in the group stage of the EHF Europa League on Sunday and saved a point in a dramatic final game against the Croatian champion Podravka Koprivnica. Herbert Gábor’s team overcame a seven-goal deficit in the first half and scored the tying goal a few seconds before the end of the match.
The goal of the cup match is to reach the quarter-finals of the series. Among the top eight, Ferencáros and Győr, the first two places in the last championship, are definitely there. Mosonmagyaróvár, MTK, Dunaújváros and Kisvárda previously advanced from the round. On Wednesday, one more match will be organized besides ours, Alba-Fehérvár will play at the home of the second division Esztergom, the quarter-final field will be complete with the winners of these two duels. After a possible draw in Esztergom, the lower class host can advance, while in Vác – as two teams from the same division meet – the visiting team, i.e. DVSC SCHAEFFLER, can reach the MK quarterfinals.
