What few expected just half a year ago happened, DVSC SCHAEFFLER advanced from Group A of the CL. In addition, there was no need to worry about reaching the round of 16, as four rounds before the end, it was decided that Zoltán Szilágyi’s team would advance from the first stage of the elite league.
We can say without exaggeration that a fantastic period is behind us. 14 matches that Debrecen handball fans will never forget. DVSC SCHAEFFLER was placed in Group A of the Champions League, and before the start of the series, the majority thought that the team did not have much of a chance to advance. Moreover, there were quite a few who believed that Loki would end the group stage without a point. Compared to this, the score of over fifty percent, seven wins and one draw, and the 15 points gained, are particularly noteworthy. We defeated the Swedish, Montenegrin, German and Hungarian champions (Sävehof, Buducsnoszt, Bietigheim, Győr), French Brest, which is not secretly competing for the Final Four, and scored a point in the home of CSM Bucharest, which has been stable for many years in the CL- Participating Ferencváros, who played in last year’s final, has not yet succeeded either. The team gave a snappy answer to those who believed that DVSC SCHAEFFLER has nothing to earn in the Champions League!
The team from Debrecen confidently won back and forth against Sävehof and Buducsnoszt, and these eight points would have been enough to advance. But the girls weren’t satisfied with that. The domestic success against Brest (31-24) was the first result that fans of the sport all over Europe raised their heads, and a week later DVSC SCHAEFFLER took a point from the home of CSM Bucharest. Thus, with four rounds before the end of the group stage, it was decided that regardless of the results of the remaining matches, DVSC SCHAEFFLER will be in the round of 16. But the motivation of the Debrecen players didn’t decrease despite the fact that they were certain to advance, in fact… The team played the last three rounds with 100 percent performance, with two away victories (Bietigheim, Sävehof) and a home win against Győr!
Gréta Kácsor finished in the highest place on the scorers’ list of the group stage, finishing 16th with 67 hits. Gréti finished two places ahead in terms of goals scored from action, scoring 57 times, making it 14. In the group stage, Alexandra Töpfner sold the most seven-meter shots, 39 in number. Konszuéla Hámori is among the top 30 scorers with the most assists, Koni recorded 32 assists. Gréta Kácsor (77) was 28th and Petra Vámos (76) finished the group stage in 29th place on the Canadian table (goals + assists). The player from Debrecen was twice awarded the title of goal of the round by the EHF. Liliána Csernyanszki scored the 2nd and Jovana Jovovics scored the best result of the weekend in the 13th round. It is interesting that Győr was the opponent both times. Also in the 13th round, in the home winning match against ETO, Gabrijela Bartulovic had the best save of the week. Petra Vámos was the first in the national team of the round, Jovana Jovovics was included in the 13th round.
Best of the bests:
– We scored the most goals, 36 in number, in the last round against Sävehof.
– We also won by the biggest margin in the home of the Swedish champion (27–36).
– The most goals conceded are related to the away game against Brest, the French scored 38 times.
– The heaviest defeat was in the home game against Odense (22–35).
– The fewest goals scored were also 22 goals scored in the home match against the Danes.
– The team scored the fewest goals in the away match against Buducsnost, the Montenegrin champion scored only 21 times.
– The biggest loss: the injury of Konszuéla Hámori, who will not be able to return to the field until many months later.
– The most beautiful memory: every minute of the 14 matches of the group stage!
