Champions League: 21 teams for 16 places!

The European Handball Federation (EHF) has published which teams have submitted their applications for the 2023/24 season of the Women’s Champions League.

The managing system of the BL does not change, the participants start the performance in two eight-member groups. Nine of the named teams have a secure place in the 16-member field: Odense, Esbjerg (Danes), Metz (France), Bietigheim (Germany), Győr, Buducsnoszt Podgorica (Montenegro), Vipers Kristiansand (Norway), CSM Bucharest (Romania), Krim Ljubljana (Slovenia ).

The next group includes the eight teams that entered from a country where at least one club is already in the BL field: Ikast (Denmark), Brest Bretagne, Nantes (France), FTC-Rail Cargo Hungária, DVSC SCHAEFFLER, Storhamar, Sola (Norwegians), Rapid Bucharest (Romanian).

The next group includes the countries that do not have a fixed place in the BL: Lokomotiva Zagreb (Croatia), MKS Zaglebie Lubin (Poland), IK Sävehof (Sweden), Kastamonu Belediyesi (Turkey).

In addition to the nine guaranteed participants, EL winner Ikast, Brest, Fradi, Storhamar and Rapid Bucharest seem certain.

Thus, according to the simplified formula, seven teams (Nantes, DVSC SCHAEFFLER, Sola, Lokomotiva Zagreb, MKS Zaglebie Lubin, IK Sävehof, Kastamonu Belediyesi) are fighting for two places together with us. The decision is promised on June 21, the draw for the group stage will be held on Tuesday, June 27 in Vienna.
