Catherine Gabriel is leaving Debrecen. Our French goalkeeper has been bought out of her contract by Metz Handball, a team that is in the Champions League Final Four.
Catherine Gabriel joined Debrecen from the French team Paris 92 in the summer of 2022. She quickly stole the hearts of the fans with her spectacular feats. In her first season, she had outstanding matches in both the championship and the Europa League, and it was no coincidence that the club extended her contract until the summer of 2026. She was also part of DVSC SCHAEFFLER’s memorable CL run. She won bronze medals with the team in both the championship and the Hungarian Cup. Although she has a life contract, Metz bought her out, so she can be Petra Vámos’ teammate in the French champion team from the fall.
“I know the announcement came suddenly, but this is an opportunity I didn’t want to miss,” said Catherine Gabriel. “I had a great time in Debrecen, I played many memorable matches here and I was enriched by countless experiences. I would like to thank the fans, my teammates, my coaches and everyone for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful adventure. We will see each other again soon.”
