Brest Bretagne beaten! What a fantastic win!

Dwindled, but not broken! This is how DVSC SCHAEFFLER entered the BL group match against Brest. In the absence of Mariana Costa, Planéta Szimonetta and Míra Vámos, with people barely recovered from illness in the squad, Loki beat the French silver medalist Brest team with seven goals!!!

Not many people believed in the success of DVSC SCHAEFFLER, to say the least, one of the speakers of the group dealing with Hungarian handball in the social media did not see much chance for the feat. In particular, he laughed at everyone who saw a chance for DVSC SCHAEFFLER to win.

In fact, the omens were not good. Mariana Costa is participating in the Pan-American Games, Tamara Haggerty and Míra Vámos were sick all week (the latter couldn’t even take part in the game), and Planéta Szimonetta also got sick on Saturday afternoon! After such antecedents (not anyway), we were not considered to be the favorites for the match against the French Brest, especially knowing that our opponent won at the home of CSM Bucharest last weekend. By comparison…

We got off to a great start, it was obvious from the girls that they entered the field in a now-or-never mood… There was an amazing fight on the field, our girls played their hearts out on the field, they fought for every ball. Brest led only once in the match, 13-12, and the match was in our hands the whole time. We could list the names, but it’s unnecessary. Whoever came put himself there. As Gréti Kácsor fought for a free ball, as Jovana Jovovics, Petra Füzi-Tóvizi or Tamara Haggerty stopped anyone who came against her… We led by one at the break, and the Hódos audience saw a miracle in the continuation.

Gabi Bartulovic pulled down the curtain, the defense was ecstatic, our offensive game was a parade. We led by two, three, four, five… We wiped our eyes, first because we couldn’t believe what we were seeing, and later because…. Because it was touching how a team proved to be a REAL TEAM. The more likely, against more. Those who laughed at these girls can now applaud! It was a wonderful afternoon in a wonderful hall with a wonderful audience…

COACHES:
Szilágyi Zoltán:
We had many problems this week and it shows the fighting spirit of the girls that even after such antecedents, they played handball at such a high level. Our defense, goalkeeping and fighting spirit were fantastic, but our attacking play was also excellent. I am happy and proud of the team!

Pablo Morel: After our success in Bucharest last week, it would have been important to get two points again, but we failed. Unfortunately, I have to say that the team that played better handball today deservedly won. Debrecen provided extras both in attack and defense!
