Brazil’s women’s handball team won a gold medal at the Pan American Games and thereby ensured its participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Mariana Costa played in all matches and scored a total of 14 goals.
Brazil began its participation in the Pan American Games in Group B. In the first match, they won 27:15 against Paraguay, Mariana Costa scored two goals. The next match was even smoother, they won 28:9 against Uruguay, DVSC SCHAEFFLER’s winger scored twice in this meeting as well. In the last group match, Brazil won the most. Costa made seven of seven shots, and his team beat Cuba 49:11.
In the semi-finals, Chile was waiting for the Brazilians. The host could not make the favorite of the tournament put up a serious fight either. The final result was 30:10, Mariana Costa contributed to Brazil’s victory with two goals. In the final against Argentina, the Brazilian team did not have to sweat much to win. They already had a 9-goal advantage at halftime, which became 12 at the end. Brazil won 30:18, thus becoming a gold medalist at the Pan American Games and at the same time earning the right to participate in next year’s Paris Olympics. Mari scored a goal this time.
