Another close game against the Vipers

Just like last year in the BL, DVSC SCHAEFFLER and Vipers Kristiansand played a balanced match against each other in the I. Kermann IT Cup. The teams took turns in the lead, but in the end it was better for the guests.

The match against last year’s BL rival got off to a scary start. The Norwegian star team gained a significant advantage in no time. Before we knew it, the scoreboard was already 1:6. The guests played handball at lightning speed, tolerant of contradictions and, which is not incidental at all, extremely efficiently. Of course, DVSC SCHAEFFLER’s game showed that the whole squad could barely prepare together until now. Especially the defense was very breezy, which is no wonder, since our three defenders, Petra Füzi-Tóvizi, Tamara Haggerty and Kristin Thorleifsdóttir, were missing at the beginning of the preparation. All three received extra rest due to participation in the Olympics. But then, as the minutes passed, the team from Debrecen started to swing. There were good solutions in defense, it was possible to run down the opponent from possessions, or to score after a creative and quick attack build-up. We equalized in the 19th minute, at which point the score was 8:8. Then the teams went head-to-head, until Niki Tóth’s great goal in the 28th minute gave us the lead for the first time. At the end of the half, however, the Norwegians came out better. With a last-minute shot, they gained an advantage for the continuation (13:12).

Sercien Ugolin equalized again, from the first attack of the second half. Then Kristin Thorleifsdóttir regained the lead. There was an even fight on the field, but it was felt that DVSC SCHAEFFLER was providing a more stable performance every minute. With the good defense, they managed to unsettle the Norwegian star team several times, and the extra performances came from the front. This is how Loki was leading by three goals in the 43rd minute. Of course, the Vipers are still very strong – Vyahirjeva here or there – she overcame her deficit in just three minutes. The score was equal until the 55th minute, but the Norwegians did better at the start. They gained a three-goal advantage in a minute and a half, of which we could only work one goal at the end. That freaky endgame again…

Zoltán Szilágyi (DVSC SCHAEFFLER): I’m glad we were able to play a close game again against the Vipers. Sometimes we even dominated, there were periods of the match where we were particularly effective both in attack and defense. It’s a shame for the end game, because we had a real chance to win. The opponent came out with his routine again.

Tamás Hlavaty (Vipers Kristiansand): Considering that we have only had three training sessions so far, we played great against a very strong team. Debrecen can be a tough opponent for any team this season as well. I am happy that all my players gave their best. In the final game, we were calmer, that was the deciding factor.
