A ten-goal defeat in Brest

DVSC SCHAEFFLER was able to keep up with the French star team for about 25 minutes. This time the paper form prevailed.

4,077 seats, four VIP rooms, well-designed buffets. At first glance, it was clear that the Brest Arena is not the home of a poor team. The elegant audience arrived in the hall. A few minutes before the start, the hall was filled to capacity. The domestic audience encouraged their favorites by clapping at the commanding words of the red shoes jumping on the field.

Just as an interesting fact, the day before the match, EHF informed that the originally appointed North Macedonian referee pair Ilieva and Karbeska could not travel to France due to a flight cancellation, so two Italian ladies, the Merisi-Pepe duo, jumped in at the last moment. Let’s just say it wasn’t up to them.

In the first ten minutes, there was not much joy for the domestic spectators, as DVSC SCHAEFFLER led all the way until Hámori’s suspension. The French star team needed the advantage to be able to convert. Then they kept the advantage until the break. Our team couldn’t handle the Russian bomber, Maslova, if she didn’t shoot, she passed the ball to Foppa, and the French world champion mercilessly sold her chances. Loki kept pace with the opponent for 25 minutes, until then the home team could not build a lead of more than three goals, and even our team came up with a goal several times. However, in the last minutes before the break, the girls from Debrecen lost their lead, so the difference increased to 5 goals in no time. The score was 19-14 at halftime.

Unfortunately, in the second half we continued where we left off in the first half. Inexplicable errors came, there was some lack of awareness in defense and incoherence in attack. And Brest took advantage of this cruelly. Less than eight minutes into the second half, the home team led by 11 goals, while Zoltán Szilágyi played out the remaining two timeouts. It cannot be said that the girls did not struggle. We managed to get closer, the difference was reduced to eight by halftime of the second half. Today, however, the team was far from a feat. Brest played well and concentrated in the continuation as well, they did not let the game slip out of their hands. The French team won with ten goals. All in all, what happened was that the paper form prevailed, but after the domestic victory and especially the play shown at that time, it went very badly.
