A painful slap from the rookie

Esztergom, who played with discipline, deservedly won against DVSC SCHAEFFLER, who made many mistakes and fell apart completely. It was the day when nothing worked.

It was eerily similar to what was seen at the beginning of the match against Vasas. There were a lot of mistakes both in defense and attack. In front of our own goal, we sometimes left inexplicably large empty areas for the opponent, if we managed to start a rush, one imprecise pass prevented the team from scoring. The guests showed a much more collected game, no wonder they were able to lead several times in the first quarter of an hour. Then, when Esztergom’s advantage increased to three goals, Zoltán Szilágyi asked for time. At that time, we were only in the 12th minute. After that, the picture of the match did not change much, in fact, the newcomer was even able to increase his advantage. After a quarter of an hour, the guests were already up by five. By the 20th minute, they managed to score three goals from the deficit, at which point Gábor Elek asked for time. From a score of 10:12, we ran to him in the last 10 minutes of the first half, which again did not bring much positives. Missed shots, sevens, disintegrating defense, it was not at all surprising that MOL Esztergom led by five goals at halftime.

So the second half was about holding on. That’s why we had to struggle, not a little. It took ten minutes to somehow overcome two goals from the deficit. But then came another chaotic minute and a half and the difference was restored. It cannot be said that the girls did not struggle, but their great will ended in a groan. In the 46th minute – for the first time in the game – the difference increased to six goals, then ten minutes before the end to seven… And from there there was no going back. DVSC SCHAEFFLER simply couldn’t find their game, but the guests played very disciplined handball throughout, so they won the match fully deserved.

Coaches’ speeches:
Zoltán Szilágyi: Congratulations to Esztergom, they won the match fully deserved. They are a young team, but they played handball much more maturely than us. I am very disappointed. You can’t start a match like that. In the seventh minute, we were already at the fifth personal foul, missed seven meters, slips and there was not a single individual performance that we could rely on. We entered a negative spiral and no matter what we changed, nothing worked. We have to discuss a lot of things within the team, we have to clarify who we expect from whom… There are such matches, but now the most important thing is how we can get out of this situation.
Gábor Elek: I am very proud of my team, I am very happy about the victory, because we worked a lot for it. At the same time, I say that we and the home team must quickly forget this match. This did not make us a better team, we must continue to work with the same humility. Of course, there were excellent individual achievements, which should not go unnoticed. This 4-point start is a dream, but we still have a lot of work to do to reach our goals.
