DVSC SCHAEFFLER and Győr Audi ETO played a balanced match again. In the Champions League, we won by 29:28, but this time the Győrs came out better from the chaotic end.
After one Hungarian league and two BL matches, this time the two teams met in the semi-finals of the Hungarian Cup. Győr won two of the three matches so far, but Loki won the second Champions League meeting in Debrecen. A little less than a year ago, DVSC SCHAEFFLER and Győr also met in one of the semi-finals of the Hungarian Cup, then in a very close fight, ETO won 27:26. As for this year’s semi-finals, both teams were missing a key player. Konszuéla Hámori, who is rehabilitating after cruciate ligament rupture, from Debrecen, and Silje Solberg from Győri.
We started the match well, as we scored a goal from the first attack through Planéta, then Gabriel saved one and Tamara Haggerty also scored after the second attack. However, it didn’t take long for Győr to equalize. At the beginning of the fourth minute, the score was already 2:2. Then came a minor ups and downs in DVSC SCHAEFFLER’s game. There wasn’t much of an antidote against the ever-harder ETO defense, so the green and whites went ahead with three goals in a flash. Debrecen caught up to a goal in the middle of the half, and in the 20th minute the score was tied again, mainly thanks to the crosses of Planéta and Kácsor. However, the final third of the half did not go too well. He missed a week and quite a few jumps, so Győr withdrew again. The score was 16:12 at the break.
The second half started with serious give and take. The two teams scored 10 goals in five minutes, but the difference did not change. In the continuation, the game slowed down a bit, it took more time for each goal and in this period the Győrs aimed better, so after ten minutes of play the difference increased to six goals. It took three Gabriel saves for Loki to get back to minus four. That’s how we arrived at halftime.
In the 49th minute, with a three-goal ETO lead, Zoltán Szilágyi tried a seven-on-six game, at the end of which we could shoot seven, but Toft defended. A minute later, however, the difference was reduced to two, after Kácsor’s seven, so an exciting last 10 minutes awaited the teams and the fans. But how exciting! In the 24th minute, with Füzi-Tóvizi’s goal, it was even again!!! DVSC attacked seven against six for the lead again with SCHAEFFLER and Kácsor again leading after 3:2 to 28:27. At that point there were only four and a half minutes left. It came to a chaotic end. Both teams made a lot of mistakes, but only Győr could score in the first half. There was no response to Dale’s double from Debrecen, even though we were able to attack in the last half minute of the match, the last chance was lost with a bad tackle. Again, ETO won with a minimal difference, one goal, just like in last year’s semi-final. On Sunday, at 3 p.m., the girls will play a bronze medal match against Mosonmagyaróvár.

Zoltán Szilágyi: I am proud of the girls, as it was a big thing that we were able to come back from minus six in the match against Győr. On the other hand, I’m very sorry that we missed a very serious opportunity again, it’s probably not a coincidence that we can’t make good decisions in decisive situations. The positive thing is that our defense came together at the end and the goalkeeping performance came as well. We played an intense match again against ETO, which we can build on in the bronze medal match. Ulrik Kirkely: I think we controlled the match for 40-45 minutes. We should have ended the game with a 5-6 goal lead, but again we were not accurate enough for that. In the beginning of the match, control slipped a bit out of our hands, Debrecen slowed down the pace well with the seven against six game and caused us problems. We knew that our opponent was a great fighter and he proved it now. I’m glad that we were able to win the game, even if it was difficult.
