DVSC SCHAEFFLER played an absolutely balanced match against Bistrita, a team with big names. They had the chance to score, but the Romanian team was able to win with a goal scored in the dying moments.

After four minutes of goalless play, we scored the first goal. Then three more, without conceding a single goal. We started with a 4-0 run. It took Bistrita six and a half minutes to find the back of the net. In the 12th minute, we were already leading by five goals, so it was no wonder that the visitors’ coach called for time out. We held the 4-5 goal lead until the 21st minute, when Gloria scored an easy goal after a turnover. The lead was reduced to three, and then Zoltán Szilágyi called for time out. However, this did not calm the team down either. A few intercepted attacks were enough for the visitors to turn around and catch up. In fact, the score was level again in the 28th minute and remained that way until the break. Despite this, DVSC SCHAEFFLER played great in the first half.
At the beginning of the second half, Bistrita took the lead for the first time, with two goals straight away. It seemed that the guests started this half fresher. In the fifth minute, Bistrita was already leading by four goals, which they had to somehow work through until the end. The girls fought for it. They managed to catch up by three and then two goals by the middle of the half, so a very exciting last quarter of an hour awaited the fans. However, in the 18th minute, something happened that is very rarely seen even in handball matches. The referees sent off three of our players one after the other, and Nina Szabó was also shown a red card for a serious foul. Bistrita attacked six against three. Despite this, we were able to come up with a goal twice in a row! Ryde defended seven, Toublanc scored from the wing, an amazing, heroic fight took place on the field. In the 52nd minute, we attacked for the equalizer and we equalized!
The whole team and the hall were in ecstasy!!! In the 23rd minute we were leading again with Jovovics’ goal! But the answer came soon. The outcome of the match was simply unpredictable. There was a lot of give and take on the field, goals were falling on both sides, neither team had much energy left for defense. One minute and 52 seconds before the end, the score was 31-33. Zoltán Szilágyi called for time once again, for the last time. From the following action, we scored again and the difference was only one goal. We defended the Romanian attack and had 40 seconds left to equalize. Thorleifsdóttir scored in our seven-on-six attack, but there were still 8 seconds left and the Romanians scored a goal into our empty goal. Sport is sometimes unfair. Hats off to the girls from Debrecen!

COACHES SPEECHES:
Zoltán Szilágyi: We started the game great, we played very well in the first twenty minutes. Then our defense level dropped, we couldn’t find the rhythm and Beszterce took advantage of this. The beginning of the second half wasn’t successful, but I’m proud of my team that we came back from a serious deficit and we had heart, maybe that’s the most important thing.
Carlos Viver: We didn’t get going at the beginning of the match, our shots weren’t successful, but that also included the fact that our opponent played great. After the red card, we could have decided the fate of the two points, but the home team fought hard, so our victory was based on nuances, which makes it even more valuable.
