Thanks in part to the excellent play of Jovana Jovovics, Serbia beat Slovenia 62–60 on aggregate and qualified for the World Cup. The Swedish national team, with Kristin Thorleifsdóttir in the squad, beat Kosovo twice and are also participating in the World Cup.
Not only our Hungarian players excelled in the national teams. Sweden played a World Cup qualifier against Kosovo, although the Scandinavian team, which also employs Thorleifsdóttir, did not have to exert much effort to advance. They won the first match 51-16 and the second match 43-24, thus advancing with a 94-40 aggregate score. Kristin Thorleifsdóttir scored a total of seven goals in the two matches.
The Serbia-Slovenia duel was much closer. After the 29-29 first match, the Serbs fought for their place in the World Cup on home soil, after winning in a big battle, 33-31, thus surpassing their rivals with a 62-60 aggregate score. Jovana Jovovics scored a total of 10 goals in the two matches.
