In the first match of the main ronud, defeated Norway, and with this the Hungarian national team is definitely in the quarter-finals of the Junior World Championship!
After the group final against South Korea, there was not much time left to prepare for the first meeting of the semi-final, where the second place in Group D, Norway, was our opponent at the Junior World Championship in Skopje. The Norwegians lost to Denmark 33-25 in the “northern derby” on Saturday, so the Hungarian national team’s victory on Sunday could have also qualified them for the quarterfinals.
Well, the Hungarian national team, prepared by the coaching duo of Zoltán Szilágyi and Kitti Kudor, beat mirror-smooth Norway as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
In the first minutes, the haste caused by excitement came according to schedule, which is why we had to wait four minutes for the first Hungarian goal. After that, however, the momentum started, and by the end of the first quarter of an hour, they managed to shake off the opponent in such a way that the Hungarian team did not really play outstandingly. The defense – we can say that it is traditional now – was very good, this time Imre Szofi pulled down the curtain in the goal, so we reached the half-time with a more than reassuring 18-11 Hungarian lead.
To make sure there was no doubt, our team took care of that at the beginning of the second half, as they scored three goals in just over two minutes, without a response from Norway. In the remaining time, the Hungarian national team confidently maintained its advantage in a slightly “reduced mode”, despite making a lot of mistakes. The five-goal victory against Norway was our closest match at the World Cup so far. This success means that the Hungarian national team will definitely be among the top eight teams of the World Cup. In the second match of the semi-final, after tomorrow’s rest day, on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Denmark will be the opponent.
