DVSC SCHAEFFLER will play at the home of Motherson-Mosonmagyaróvár on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Both ensembles are competing for the podium, so we can say that a great derby awaits Zoltán Szilágyi’s students.
In the last three seasons, these two teams rented the bottom step of the podium. In 2021 the team from Transdanubia, since then DVSC SCHAEFFLER finished third in the championship twice, and this time this is the goal for both teams.
Mosonmagyaróvár returned to NB I in 2018 after a one-year detour in the second division, and since then, systematic construction has been going on in the city of Kisalföldi. The most spectacular result of this was the bronze medal won in the 2020/21 season, which permanently put the settlement on the handball map of the country. Despite the fierce rivalry, our results against Móvár are quite good. Since our opponent’s comeback, he was only able to win against Loki once, back in September 2020, in the Főnix Arena, and as it turned out later, this success laid the foundation for the bronze medal in the club’s history. In addition, we won seven times, and in February of this year, the two teams played a 28-28 draw in the UFM Arena. In the hall where the team from Debrecen has never lost, since the last time the team from Móvár was able to win at home against DVSC was in October 2016, which was still playing its matches in Mosonszolnok. (It is interesting that MKC was also able to win in Debrecen in the 2016-17 season, but was forced to say goodbye to the top flight.)
Motherson-Mosonmagyaróvár managed by János Gyurka had a great start to this year’s championship, as after a confident away success against Budaörs, they defeated Győr Audi ETO at home on September 6. A week after the historic feat, János Gyurka’s students held their own in the home of Ferencváros, the green and whites were only able to break MKC in the second half, which since then won confidently against Alba-Fehérvár, Vác and Vasas.
Here, after the national team break, the team reunited in full in Győr, as Petra Füzi-Tóvizi welcomed her teammates here after the match in Austria on Sunday evening, as well as Mariana Costa, who arrived in Vienna from the Brazilian national team’s training camp in Portugal on Monday morning. Tamara Haggerty of the Netherlands and Jovana Jovovics of the Serbian national team came to Debrecen after the European qualifiers, as did Liliána Csernyanszki of the junior national team and the coaching duo Zoltán Szilágyi and Kitti Kudor working with the age-group team. Petra Vámos, who missed two EHF European Cup matches of the Hungarian national team, recovered from her illness, so on Tuesday morning she was also on the team bus, which was heading to Győr. The girls from Debrecen will spend the night here, and after a two-week break, the entire squad of DVSC SCHAEFFLER will be able to practice together again on Tuesday afternoon in the Audi Arena.
“It’s clear that this will be the most important week of the current season,” said Gabrijela Bartulovic, the Croatian goalkeeper of our team before Wednesday’s derby, who saved 17 out of 35 shots in the last league game against Békéscsaba, with an efficiency of 49 percent. “It will be difficult, but we prepared for it, we’ve been training a lot, so we just have to do our thing. It will certainly not be easy, but we can get the 4 points in the two games. Of course, for now we only deal with Mosonmagyaróvár. They have very good central players. They also shoot excellently from the center back, left back and right back positions, and as I remember them from the previous two seasons, they also like to try from a distance. In addition, their defense is fine, and they even have a good goalkeeper, so we tried to prepare for all that. At the same time, we also have to give our best if we want to achieve a good result.”
Gábor Hargitai and Gábor Markó will be the referees on the Motherson-Mosonmagyaróvár-DVSC SCHAEFFLER match at the UFM Arena (Mosonmagyaróvár, Gorkij utca 1.) on Wednesday, October 18 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be broadcast live on the M4 Sport channel.
